Dr. Helmut K. Seitz is head of the Department of Medicine at Salem Medical Centre since 1991. Since 2000 he is also medical director and since 2007 Honorary Professor for Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Alcohol Research of Heidelberg University. Dr. Seitz is an international expert in the area of alcohol-associated diseases. His clinical expertise and research is focused on alcohol metabolism and its toxicity, on alcoholic liver disease and alcohol-associated carcinogenesis. In this area he has published more than 350 papers and several books. Current research includes studies on the genetic aspects of alcohol-associated diseases, relevant polymorphisms with respect to alcoholic liver disease and alcohol associated cancer.
