This focused issue on “Imaging and HPB Surgery” is edited by Dr. Yuman Fong, from Department of Surgery, City of Hope Medical Center, Duarte, CA, USA; Dr. Dana Haddad, from Department of Radiology, Northwell Health, Manhasset, NY, USA; and Dr. Warner Susanne, from Department of Surgery, City of Hope, Duarte, CA, USA.

Dr. Yuman Fong is best known clinically for his extensive work in the field of hepatobiliary surgery––especially for hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatic metastases from colorectal cancer, gallbladder cancer, and cholangiocarcinoma. He has pioneered many surgical, laparoscopic, robotic and ablative therapies for these cancers that occur in over a million people yearly worldwide. Nationally and internationally, he has also participated in and coordinated many studies aimed at understanding, preventing, and treating these cancers.

Dr. Dana Haddad is a breast imaging radiologist, passionate about women’s health and preventative care. She has knowledge in all aspects of women’s imaging including mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and tomography, in addition to breast procedures guided by these modalities. Her research interests focus on the use of quantitative magnetic resonance imaging of breast cancer to further understand tumor heterogeneity and identify possible risk predictors, as well as improving the way we continue to establish value-based imaging.

Dr. Warner Susanne’s research interests include clinical applications of oncolytic viral therapies, and humanities research centered on the spiritual, emotional, and physical optimization of the perioperative patient experience. She is passionate about the potential of both arenas to transform cancer care, and is always on the lookout for collaborators.
